Convert AVIF to JPG in 3 Steps

No account, no install, no queue. Drop your AVIF files in and the JPG versions are ready to download.

  1. Step 1

    Drop your images in

Drag files onto the page, click to browse, or drop in a ZIP and every supported image inside is pulled out. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF and BMP all work, mixed together in the same batch.

  2. Step 2

    Adjust if you want to

Choose your output format and drag the quality slider. That is the whole setup. Settings holds a KB target, resizing and batch renaming if you want them, and can stay closed if you do not.

  3. Step 3

    Download your JPG files

Conversion starts on its own, so there is usually nothing to press. Batches over 40 wait for one click so nothing runs away with your machine. Download files one at a time or take the whole batch as a single ZIP.

Why Convert AVIF to JPEG?

AVIF is technically superior to JPEG in almost every measurable way. Smaller files, better quality, transparency support. But JPEG has something AVIF will never match: 30 years of universal adoption. Every email client renders it. Every printer accepts it. Every piece of software ever written opens it. When your AVIF images need to leave the browser and enter the real world, inboxes, print shops, enterprise systems, legacy tools, JPEG is the only format you can count on working without question.

AVIF

AV1 Image File Format

AVIF delivers the best compression of any widely used image format. 30–50% smaller than JPEG and 20–30% smaller than WebP. It supports transparency, HDR, and wide color gamut. But outside of modern browsers, AVIF support is still inconsistent. Email clients, print services, desktop software, and enterprise systems frequently don't handle it, which is exactly when you need JPEG.

JPEG

Joint Photographic Experts Group

JPEG is the most compatible image format ever created. Invented in 1992 and adopted universally since, it works in every email client, every printer, every image editor, every operating system, every social platform, and every device ever made. When you need an image to open without any questions anywhere on earth, JPEG is the only answer.

Batch File Renaming

Custom prefix, separator, numbering, and.jpg extension. Preview exactly what filenames will look like before downloading your batch.

the maximum size option

Need JPEGs under 200 KB for email attachments or a specific upload limit? Set a target and the tool automatically finds the optimal quality for each image individually.

Works on Every Device

Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, Android. Any modern browser runs the tool with no installation required.

Selective Processing

Upload a large AVIF collection, select only the images you need as JPEG. Only those are converted. Full control, no wasted processing.

When You Need AVIF to JPEG

AVIF to JPEG is the "make it work everywhere" conversion. Reach for it whenever your images need to leave the browser and enter the broader world.

Email Attachments That Display Correctly

Outlook, Apple Mail, corporate email systems, and older Gmail clients don't render AVIF inline. Recipients see a broken image icon instead of your photo. Convert to JPEG before attaching and it displays perfectly in every inbox, every client, every device.

Print Services & Physical Products

Every print shop on earth accepts JPEG. Business cards, flyers, posters, photo prints, merchandise. If it needs printing, convert your AVIF to JPEG first. Print RIPs and pre-press software don't understand AVIF, and you don't want to find that out at the shop.

Legacy & Enterprise Software

Corporate document management systems, older CRM platforms, government portals, medical imaging software, and industry-specific tools routinely accept only JPEG. Batch convert your AVIF files to meet these requirements without reworking your delivery pipeline.

Marketplace & Social Platform Uploads

eBay, Etsy, Amazon, and many social platforms process JPEG reliably and predictably. Some reject AVIF outright or transcode it in unexpected ways that degrade quality. Convert first to control exactly what the platform receives.

Generating JPEG Fallbacks for Web

If you serve AVIF as your primary web format, you need JPEG fallbacks for older browsers and email rendering engines. Convert your entire AVIF asset library to JPEG here to generate that fallback layer, then pair with AVIF to WebP for a full three-tier delivery stack.

Sharing with Non-Technical Recipients

Not everyone knows what AVIF is, and most people aren't running the latest browser or OS. JPEG guarantees that anyone, on any device, any software, anywhere, can open and view your images without confusion, error messages, or needing to install anything.

  • No signup, no email, no "check your inbox for the download link". Opened the page, dropped the AVIF files, had JPG files thirty seconds later.

  • I was sceptical about the target size mode but it works properly. Asked for under 200 KB and every JPG file came in just under, with the quality it could manage at that budget rather than some fixed preset.

  • My team is split across Windows, Mac and a couple of Chromebooks. This is the only image tool all of them can actually use.

  • Converted our whole media library and Lighthouse stopped complaining about image delivery. Largest Contentful Paint came down noticeably on the pages with the heaviest AVIF assets.

  • Uploaded a nested ZIP straight from a client's Dropbox export. It found every AVIF image inside the subfolders, converted them, and gave me one tidy JPG archive back.

Jonas WeberDevOps engineer Munich, Germany · Mar 2026
  • Selective processing is the feature I did not know I wanted. Half my folder was already JPG; it skipped those and only converted the AVIF files, without stopping the batch to ask me about it.

Peter NowakIT manager Kraków, Poland · Feb 2026
  • We had Adobe Express on the team budget purely for image conversion. This replaced it for the AVIF and JPG work, which is most of what we were doing. Small win, but it adds up.

  • Disconnected my wifi halfway through a batch out of curiosity and it carried on converting. That told me everything I needed to know about where the AVIF files were actually being processed.

  • No account, no upsell, no "you have 3 conversions remaining today". Just a tool that converts AVIF to JPG and gets out of the way.

Farhan SiddiquiDigital marketer Rawalpindi, Pakistan · Nov 2025
  • We migrate client media libraries and there are always hundreds of AVIF assets. Being able to convert them all to JPG in a couple of batches instead of one at a time has genuinely saved days of work this year.

  • Coming from AVIF, the thing you notice immediately is the size difference. JPEG gives me universal compatibility and my page weight dropped noticeably after the swap.

AVIF to JPG Conversion and Compression Explained

What changes when you convert AVIF to JPG, what it costs, and how to pick a quality setting you will not regret.

AVIF compresses harder than anything else in common use, which makes it excellent for delivery and awkward for everything else. Editors, marketplaces and older devices frequently cannot open it. Converting to JPEG produces a copy that works in the places AVIF does not reach yet.

JPEG has no alpha channel, so any transparent area is flattened onto a white background during conversion. If you need the transparency, convert to PNG or AVIF instead.

Set quality once and it applies to the whole batch, so a folder of two hundred files takes the same number of decisions as one. Everything runs on your own machine, so speed depends on your processor rather than on how busy a server is. If you are working to a hard limit, such as a content management system that rejects anything over 200 KB, open Settings and set a maximum file size instead of a quality percentage. The encoder then searches for the best quality that fits your budget, file by file.

All Formats. One Tool.

AVIF to JPG is one of twenty-four conversion paths here, and each one has its own page with defaults already set for that pair. Whichever you land on, the tool behind it is the same: it accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF and BMP, reads ZIP archives, and handles up to 500 images in a single batch.

Conversion runs in your browser using your own processor, so nothing is uploaded, nothing is queued behind other people, and there is no account, no watermark and no daily cap. Close the tab and the files are gone from memory; they were never anywhere else.

If you need a smaller file rather than a different format, the image compressor keeps your originals and works to a quality level or a size in kilobytes. To change dimensions, the image resizer handles fit, fill and crop, or stretch across a whole folder at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about converting AVIF to JPEG.

Is it safe to convert AVIF to JPEG on SmallerImages?
Yes. Everything runs entirely inside your browser. No files are uploaded to any server at any point. Your images never leave your device from start to finish.
What happens to transparency when converting AVIF to JPEG?
JPEG does not support transparency. Any transparent areas in your AVIF files are automatically filled with a clean white background during conversion. If you need to preserve transparency, use our AVIF to PNG converter (lossless, full transparency) or AVIF to WebP converter (compressed, full transparency) instead.
Will JPEG files be larger than my AVIF files?
Yes, typically. AVIF achieves 30–50% better compression than JPEG at equivalent visual quality. Your JPEG output will be larger, but at quality 85–95 it will still be reasonably sized and will work in literally every context where you need it.
What quality setting should I use?
Quality 85–95 is recommended for high-fidelity output from AVIF source material. Use 75–85 if file size is a concern and you're working with web images rather than print. The before/after slider lets you verify quality visually before running your full batch.
Why would I convert from AVIF to JPEG?
The main reasons are email compatibility, print services, legacy software, marketplace uploads, and sharing with non-technical recipients. JPEG is the only format that works everywhere without question. AVIF's superior compression doesn't help if the recipient's tool can't open the file.
Can I set a target file size for the JPEG output?
Yes. In the the Settings dialog, tick Aim for a maximum size and enter a KB value. The tool automatically adjusts quality per image to get as close to your target as possible. This is useful for email attachment size limits or platform upload restrictions.
How many AVIF files can I convert at once?
No limit. Convert as many files as you need. A progress bar tracks large batches as they process on your device.
Is SmallerImages completely free?
Yes. No premium plans, no watermarks, no file limits, no account required, and no ads.
Can I upload a ZIP of AVIF files?
Yes. Upload a.zip archive and all AVIF images inside are extracted and queued automatically. Download all converted JPEGs as a new ZIP in one click.
What if I want to go from JPEG back to AVIF?
Use our JPG to AVIF converter to re-compress for web delivery at maximum efficiency. Keep in mind that re-compressing a JPEG to AVIF introduces generation loss. Always keep your original AVIF source files if you plan to re-convert later.
