Convert AVIF to PNG in 3 Steps

No account, no install, no queue. Drop your AVIF files in and the PNG versions are ready to download.

  1. Step 1

    Drop your images in

Drag files onto the page, click to browse, or drop in a ZIP and every supported image inside is pulled out. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF and BMP all work, mixed together in the same batch.

  2. Step 2

    Adjust if you want to

Choose your output format and drag the quality slider. That is the whole setup. Settings holds a KB target, resizing and batch renaming if you want them, and can stay closed if you do not.

  3. Step 3

    Download your PNG files

Conversion starts on its own, so there is usually nothing to press. Batches over 40 wait for one click so nothing runs away with your machine. Download files one at a time or take the whole batch as a single ZIP.

Why Convert AVIF to PNG?

AVIF is built for delivery, squeezing images as small as possible for fast web transfer. PNG is built for fidelity, preserving every pixel without any loss whatsoever. When you need to edit an AVIF image, hand it off to a designer, open it in software that doesn't support AVIF, or prepare it for print, PNG is the right output. It's the universally supported lossless format that every image editor, print shop, and graphics tool on earth understands.

AVIF

AV1 Image File Format

AVIF is the most efficient web image format available. Delivering files 20–30% smaller than WebP and up to 50% smaller than JPEG. Its AV1-based compression is exceptional for delivery, but that same compression means it's a lossy format. Re-editing or re-saving AVIF introduces generation loss. And many image editing tools simply don't open AVIF files yet.

PNG

Portable Network Graphics

PNG is the gold standard for lossless image storage. No matter how many times you open, edit, and save a PNG file, the pixel data never degrades. Full alpha transparency is supported, making it the go-to format for logos, UI assets, illustrations, and any image that needs to be composited or edited further. Every image editor, browser, operating system, and print tool opens PNG without question.

Pixel-Perfect Lossless Output. Every Time.

When quality loss isn't an option, PNG is the answer. Convert your entire AVIF library to perfectly lossless PNGs in one batch.

True Bulk Conversion

Convert 10 or 500+ AVIF files to PNG in a single batch. No file limits, no throttling. Process your entire asset library at once.

100% Private & Secure

Client-side only. Your AVIF images are never uploaded to any server. All conversion happens locally on your device.

Pixel-Perfect Lossless Output

PNG is lossless by definition. Every pixel from your AVIF source is preserved exactly in the PNG output. No compression artifacts, no color shifts, no quality degradation of any kind.

ZIP Upload & Download

Upload a ZIP of AVIF files, download all converted PNGs as a single ZIP archive. Ideal for bulk asset exports and design handoffs.

Batch File Renaming

Set a custom prefix, separator, starting number, and.png extension. Preview the exact filename pattern before downloading your batch.

the maximum size option

PNG is lossless so target KB is not applicable. File size is determined by image content, not compression quality. For size-controlled output, try AVIF to WebP or AVIF to JPEG instead.

Works on Every Device

Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, Android. Any modern browser runs the tool with no installation or extension needed.

Selective Processing

Upload an entire AVIF library and select only the specific images you need as PNG. Only those files are converted and downloaded.

Full Transparency Preserved

PNG's alpha channel support is rock-solid. Transparent areas in your AVIF images carry through perfectly. Logos, UI elements, and cutouts stay clean with no white fringing or background bleed.

When You Need AVIF to PNG

AVIF is the right format for delivering images. PNG is the right format for working with them. Here's when that distinction matters.

Editing in Photoshop, GIMP, or Affinity

Most image editors don't yet open AVIF natively. Converting to PNG first gives you a lossless, fully editable file that opens instantly in any editor. With no plugins, no workarounds, and no generation loss when you save again.

Logos, Icons & UI Assets with Transparency

AVIF handles transparency, but PNG is the industry standard for transparent assets in design workflows. Convert your AVIF icons and logos to PNG for seamless use in Figma, Sketch, Illustrator, and any design system that expects PNG assets.

Print Preparation

Print workflows and pre-press software universally accept PNG as a lossless input format. Converting AVIF to PNG before sending to a print service avoids any risk of the shop's software rejecting or mishandling your files.

Source File Archiving

If you're archiving images for long-term storage or future editing, lossless PNG is the safer choice over AVIF. Every re-compression of a lossy file introduces further degradation. PNG ensures your archive always holds the best possible version of each image.

Sharing with Designers & Clients

Handing off images to a design team or client? PNG is the safest format for cross-tool compatibility. Unlike AVIF, PNG opens without any questions in every design environment, presentation tool, and document editor they might be using.

Screenshots & Screen-Recorded Assets

Screenshots and UI recordings are often best stored losslessly. Compression artifacts on text and sharp edges are immediately obvious. Converting AVIF screenshots to PNG for documentation, tutorials, or developer assets keeps them pixel-sharp.

  • The comparison slider is what earned my trust. Being able to drag across the actual image and check the PNG output against the original AVIF before downloading is not something the other free tools bother with.

Erik JohanssonProduct owner Gothenburg, Sweden · Aug 2026
  • Cut about 60% off our image payload converting AVIF to PNG. No visible difference to customers, measurably faster pages.

Sana TariqPublishing assistant Karachi, Pakistan · Jul 2026
  • My team is split across Windows, Mac and a couple of Chromebooks. This is the only image tool all of them can actually use.

Lukas BrandtPerformance engineer Berlin, Germany · Jun 2026
  • I was paying for a paid TinyPNG plan almost entirely to batch-convert AVIF to PNG. Cancelled it two months ago and have not missed it once. The output is the same and the workflow is faster.

Vikram DesaiSaaS marketing Pune, India · Apr 2026
  • Our client contracts forbid uploading unreleased assets to third-party servers, which rules out almost every online converter. This one runs in the browser, so the AVIF files never leave the machine. I checked the network tab myself before I trusted it.

  • No account, no upsell, no "you have 3 conversions remaining today". Just a tool that converts AVIF to PNG and gets out of the way.

Fatima Al-MansouriBrand manager Dubai, United Arab Emirates · Feb 2026
  • AVIF is great for the best compression available today, but slower to encode and newer than the rest is a real problem once you have a few hundred of them. Converting to PNG fixed that without me having to think about codecs.

Ahmad ZakiPrint shop manager Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia · Feb 2026
  • ZIP in, ZIP out. That is the whole workflow for me. It even skips the non-image files in the archive without complaining, which I did not expect.

Jonas WeberDevOps engineer Munich, Germany · Dec 2025
  • I had just over 300 AVIF files from a product shoot that all needed to be PNG. Dropped the lot in, walked away, came back to a finished batch. No queue, no "upgrade to convert more than 20 files" wall.

Kwame AsanteCreative director Manchester, United Kingdom · Nov 2025
  • Added some files mid-batch and the button changed to say it would only process the new ones. Little detail, but it means I am not reconverting work that is already done.

Ibrahim YılmazWeb agency owner Istanbul, Turkey · Oct 2025
  • What surprised me was that it stays responsive during a big batch. The page does not lock up, the progress updates, and I can keep working in another tab.

Bilal AhmedWordPress developer Lahore, Pakistan · Sep 2025
  • I was sceptical about the target size mode but it works properly. Asked for under 200 KB and every PNG file came in just under, with the quality it could manage at that budget rather than some fixed preset.

AVIF to PNG Conversion and Compression Explained

What changes when you convert AVIF to PNG, what it costs, and how to pick a quality setting you will not regret.

AVIF compresses harder than anything else in common use, which makes it excellent for delivery and awkward for everything else. Editors, marketplaces and older devices frequently cannot open it. Converting to PNG produces a copy that works in the places AVIF does not reach yet.

Converting to PNG is lossless, but it cannot recover detail the original encoder already threw away. What it does give you is a master that stays identical no matter how many times you edit and re-save it. That matters if the file is going into a workflow that opens and closes it repeatedly.

Set quality once and it applies to the whole batch, so a folder of two hundred files takes the same number of decisions as one. Everything runs on your own machine, so speed depends on your processor rather than on how busy a server is. If you are working to a hard limit, such as a content management system that rejects anything over 200 KB, open Settings and set a maximum file size instead of a quality percentage. The encoder then searches for the best quality that fits your budget, file by file.

All Formats. One Tool.

AVIF to PNG is one of twenty-four conversion paths here, and each one has its own page with defaults already set for that pair. Whichever you land on, the tool behind it is the same: it accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF and BMP, reads ZIP archives, and handles up to 500 images in a single batch.

Conversion runs in your browser using your own processor, so nothing is uploaded, nothing is queued behind other people, and there is no account, no watermark and no daily cap. Close the tab and the files are gone from memory; they were never anywhere else.

If you need a smaller file rather than a different format, the image compressor keeps your originals and works to a quality level or a size in kilobytes. To change dimensions, the image resizer handles fit, fill and crop, or stretch across a whole folder at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about converting AVIF to PNG.

Is it safe to convert AVIF to PNG on SmallerImages?
Yes. Everything runs entirely in your browser. No files are uploaded to any server at any point. Your images never leave your device.
Is the PNG output truly lossless?
Yes. PNG is a lossless format. Every pixel from your AVIF source is reproduced exactly in the PNG output. No compression artifacts, no color shifts, no softening. The only caveat is that your AVIF source is itself a lossy format, so if any quality was lost during original AVIF encoding, PNG captures the current quality faithfully from that point.
Will PNG files be larger than my AVIF files?
Yes. Significantly so in most cases. PNG uses lossless compression, which is inherently much less space-efficient than AVIF's AV1-based codec. The trade-off is total pixel-perfect fidelity. If file size is a concern but you need to stay modern and web-friendly, consider AVIF to WebP instead.
Does transparency carry through from AVIF to PNG?
Yes. PNG has excellent alpha channel support. Any transparent areas in your AVIF images are preserved exactly. Clean edges, no fringing, no background fill. This makes PNG the ideal output for logos, icons, and UI elements that need transparency.
Can I open the resulting PNGs in Photoshop or other editors?
Yes. PNG is universally supported by every image editor. Photoshop, GIMP, Affinity Photo, Lightroom, Paint.NET, Canva, and any other tool you use. That's the core reason to convert from AVIF to PNG for editing workflows.
Why can't I set a target file size for PNG output?
PNG is lossless, so there's no quality knob to turn. File size is determined entirely by the image content. The tool can't shrink PNG output below what lossless compression allows without switching to a lossy format. For size-controlled output, use AVIF to WebP or AVIF to JPEG.
How many AVIF files can I convert at once?
No limit. Convert as many files as you need. A progress bar tracks large batches. PNG conversion is generally fast since there's no complex lossy encoding step involved.
Is SmallerImages completely free?
Yes. No premium plans, no watermarks, no file limits, no account required, and no ads.
Can I upload a ZIP of AVIF files?
Yes. Upload a.zip archive and all AVIF images inside are extracted and queued automatically. Download all converted PNGs as a new ZIP when done.
What if I want to convert PNG back to AVIF?
Use our PNG to AVIF converter to go the other direction. Ideal when you're done editing and want to re-compress for web delivery at maximum efficiency.
